Jamie's Story
I never planned on owning a cleaning company.
Years ago, I was recovering from an overuse injury that left me with permanent arthritis in my upper body. I had been away from work for quite a while, homeschooling our daughter, letting my body heal, and trying to figure out what came next.
Cleaning was something I already knew. I'd done it before. I was good at it. More importantly, I knew I could do it well.
So I decided to start over.
Officially, Radiant Residences began with $37.
I needed enough money for my business license, the required public notices, and the paperwork to get started. Nick loaned it to me. I paid him back, but I still remember how disappointed I felt that I had to borrow even that small amount.
Looking back, that $37 wasn't the beginning of a cleaning company.
It was the beginning of the life we're still building today. It taught me that small beginnings can become meaningful things when you're willing to work for them.
At first, I simply wanted to build a better life for my daughter. I wanted to create opportunities for her that I couldn't always provide before. I wanted the flexibility to be present in her life while building something honest through hard work.
What I didn't expect was how much I would come to care about the people whose homes I was cleaning.
Somewhere along the way, I realized something.
People deserve better.
Not just cleaner homes.
Better care.
I don't believe a home is finished because the obvious things are clean. It's finished when I've checked it twice, when the details people don't usually notice have been cared for, when I've used the right product on the right surface instead of the fastest one, and when I know I'd be proud to put my name on the work.
That's always been my standard.
One of the first things I teach every new team member isn't how to clean.
It's how to protect a home.
Every surface deserves the right product. Every material deserves the right tool. Working smarter—not harder—almost always produces a better result. It's amazing how many things people think are permanently stained simply because no one ever used the right approach.
But cleaning has never really been my favorite part of this work.
People are.
Over the years, I've watched children grow up, celebrated birthdays, welcomed new babies, grieved with clients who've lost loved ones, and become friends with people who first hired me to clean their kitchen.
One little girl has become my favorite reminder of why relationships matter.
When I first met her, she was still a baby. As she grew, she'd follow me around the house wanting to help. I'd hand her a towel, pretend to spray a little cleaner on it, and suddenly I had the cutest little cleaning partner anyone could ask for.
Eventually she started school, so I cleaned while she was away. One day I decided to arrange her stuffed rabbits into a little scene before I left.
The next visit, I did it again.
And again.
Now, every cleaning day, she runs straight to her room before almost anything else because she knows there will be something waiting for her. Her mom tells me she's just as excited to see it.
That has never been part of our service.
It has never been written on a checklist.
It's simply what happens when you know the family you're caring for.
The same thing happens with pets.
Nick laughs because I almost always come home with a story about somebody's dog or cat. There are two dogs I'll never forget.
One is a giant Great Dane with the sweetest eyes you've ever seen. His family jokes that he has two hearts and no brain. The other is an energetic Bull Terrier who's about as smart as the Great Dane is goofy.
Now they both greet me the same way every visit. The Great Dane stands on his back legs and wraps his paws around my shoulders like he's giving me a hug. The little one jumps as high as she can to do exactly the same thing.
Animals don't care about awards.
They don't care about websites.
They trust people.
That's something I never take for granted.
The relationships we've built have changed our lives in ways I never expected. Our clients ask about our daughter. Some have watched her grow up. Some have become like grandparents to her. Some celebrate birthdays with us. Some still send Christmas cards years later.
Those relationships are one of the greatest gifts this business has ever given our family.
We don't clean harder.
We care longer.
We'd rather know your home than rush through ten more.
We'd rather remember how you like things than simply finish a checklist.
We'd rather earn your trust than expect it.
When someone joins our team, I'm not looking for the world's best cleaner.
I'm looking for a kind person.
Cleaning can be taught.
Kindness is much harder to teach.
If someone leaves Radiant after working with us, I hope they leave understanding that our clients aren't just people paying us to clean their homes.
They're important people in our lives.
And we become important people in theirs.
That's a responsibility I don't take lightly.
People often ask if I built this company for my daughter.
The answer is yes—but probably not in the way they expect.
More than anything, I wanted her to grow up watching her mom work hard, solve problems, and keep going even when things were difficult. I wanted her to know that honest work has dignity. That kindness matters. That showing up matters. That your word matters. And that no matter what life puts in front of you, hard work can carry you through.
If she one day decides Radiant is part of her future, I'll be proud.
If she chooses an entirely different path, I'll be just as proud.
My job isn't to decide her future.
It's to leave behind something worth being proud of.
When people ask me what I hope they'll remember about Radiant Residences years from now, my answer is surprisingly simple.
I hope they remember walking into a beautifully cleaned home.
But even more than that, I hope they remember thinking,
"Wow... my house looks amazing, but I really, really liked the person who cleaned it."
Because homes deserve thoughtful care.
Homeowners deserve people they can trust inside them.
And if we've done our job well, we won't just leave behind a cleaner home.
We'll leave behind a relationship worth coming back to.
